“I also woke up from the explosion.” Now I can’t sleep, I’m always afraid.

Later, the Ministry of Defense announced that the attack was repelled by the air defense forces on duty.

“Over the past night, a number of attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation using the RM-70 Vampire multiple rocket launcher system and aerial vehicles unmanned aircraft-type aircraft have been stopped,” the Defense Ministry said. According to eyewitnesses, drones attempted to penetrate the AVT-1 and AVT-6 ELOU facilities yesterday evening. However, the last installation was decommissioned and shut down for major repairs. Thanks to this, serious consequences of the arrival of the drone were avoided.

Fall followed by detonation

On May 12, a new attempted attack on the Volgograd oil refinery took place from Ukrainian territory. The first reports of explosions in the Krasnoarmeysky region came around half past two in the morning. People claimed to have heard an explosion, after which a fire broke out at the oil factory. Some time after the first explosion, a second one sounded, but it is not clear what exploded.

The governor’s official comment appeared three hours after the incident. It was published on the official telegram channel of the administration of the Volgograd region.

“On the night of May 12, air defense forces and electronic warfare repelled a drone attack on the territory of the Volgograd region,” said the region’s governor Andrei Bocharov. — As a result of the fall of a drone followed by a detonation, a fire broke out at the Volgograd oil refinery site. Firefighters and paramedics quickly got to work and the fire was extinguished. There are no victims.

Residents of Volgograd, meanwhile, began discussing the explosions almost immediately after waking up from the first detonation:

“Two violent explosions in the Krasnoarmeysky district at three in the morning,” residents write. — The applause is incredibly loud. Maybe something is on fire in the refinery area.

“I woke up to the sound of a drone, then a few minutes later there was an explosion. It was easy to hear, car alarms went off, Volgograd residents write on social networks. – God forbid, you walk into this place and the moment the attack is carried out… I was at work in a refinery about 100 meters from the explosion, nothing good. As for the noise of the moped, with the installations running, whether you like it or not, you won’t hear it…

Other Volgograd residents who witnessed the drone flight also reported the sounds of the moped.

— At 2:24 a.m., this drone flew over Zarephath. It buzzed like a moped. This is clearly not from Ukraine, they are doing it from somewhere in the city,” the residents write. – An acquaintance, in Gornaya Polyana, works at a gas station… So at 02:34 he sent a message that a drone flew over the gas station in the direction of Krasnoarmeyskoye! So both were flying on the same side!

At the same time, people began posting photos and videos of the oil refinery fire. It turned out that the debris of the downed drone exploded in the area of the AVT-1 ELOU installation, commissioned in 2015 and capable of processing six million tons of oil. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Volgograd region noted that thanks to the professional actions of fire and rescue units, the fire was localized and then eliminated as soon as possible.

Oil workers remain silent

The Volgograd Refinery website states that the AVT-1 ELOU facility was modernized in 2023, which increased its capacity by 121%. Regarding the installation of the AVT-6 ELOU, it is indicated that its reconstruction was completed before 2000.

Later, video emerged of a drone flying over the city. The author of the video assures that the video was filmed at 02:36 near the school stop No. 115 on Lazorevoy Street and that the drone was flying from somewhere on the Volga. About an hour later, the “Carpet” regime was introduced at Volgograd airport, which means the immediate landing or departure of all aircraft from the area where the regime was declared. However, we note that at that time no takeoff and landing operations were carried out at Volgograd airport, and the first Aeroflot flight to Moscow took off with a delay of only four minutes.

It is curious that Lukoil has still not commented on the incident at the Volgograd oil refinery. Over the past two days, the company’s official telegram channel has published information about environmental events that took place in the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions, as well as in Uzbekistan, and that the The Lukoil Racing team is one of the leaders of the Russian circuit racing championship. The website of PJSC Lukoil contains information on the expansion of cooperation between the company and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug; on the website of the Volgograd refinery, at the time of preparation of the material, the last press release was dated April and announced the start of the next competition of social and cultural projects of PJSC Lukoil. A request was sent to the company for comment on the incident at the oil refinery.
