The driver suspected of fatally hitting a nine-year-old child on October 11 in Saint-Vaast in the entity of La Louvière, was imprisoned, his lawyer, Me Lauvaux, told Belga on Thursday.

The indictment chamber decided Thursday to follow the prosecution’s appeal regarding the decision taken by the Mons council chamber, on October 17, to keep the driver, born in 1987, in preventive detention under electronic surveillance. “A request for release will be filed and defended very quickly”commented Me Lauvaux.

The individual, who disputes the facts, was charged with hit-and-run following a fatal accident and involuntary manslaughter. He was initially placed in preventive detention under an electronic bracelet following his hearing by an investigating judge.
