BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Two little brothers were killed and several other people were injured, some seriously, when a vehicle driven by a woman, presumably intoxicated, crashed into a birthday party Saturday in a yacht club, a Michigan police chief said.
An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother died at the scene of the accident.
A 66-year-old woman drove more than 25 feet into the building at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Berlin Township, regarding 30 miles south of Detroit, police Chief Troy Goodnough said. Monroe County.
The accident occurred around 3 pm today, Saturday, April 20, 2024. The party was for a child’s birthday.
“Emergency personnel said that the scene was total chaos, where those who were directly involved and those who witnessed this horrendous incident showed a high level of emotion,” added the police chief.

Three children and six adults were taken to area hospitals in two helicopters or ambulances, some of them with life-threatening injuries, he said. Others received first aid at the scene, while others were taken to hospitals in private vehicles.
Detention
Goodnough did not identify the woman driving the vehicle, but said she was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol resulting in death.
The driver is already cooperating with authorities, he said, and will likely face more charges as the investigation progresses.
Eight injured
For their part, Ryan Mink and Shane Neckel, a reporter from Monroe County, reported on their Facebook page that emergency teams are reporting at least eight people injured, including children, and that a minor was trapped under the vehicle.
