At the last shoot, shortly following midday, one of the hunting dogs had startled the woodcock, which wanted to fly away from the forest towards a rising meadow. The Tyrolean hunter shot at the animal and hit it, but also his colleague – also from Tyrol. This was regarding 40 meters away from the shooter. The projectiles from the shotgun hit the 24-year-old in the face and chest area.
The other hunters alerted the rescue workers and looked following their colleague, who was responsive. He was flown by rescue helicopter to the LKH Graz and admitted to hospital. According to the attending doctors, there was no danger to life, according to the police. The shooter, who had a positive breathalyzer test, suffered shock and also received medical treatment.
