Asunción, IP Agency.- An innovative proposal was carried out by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security (MTESS), together with recognized companies in the market, to raise awareness regarding the importance of preventing workplace accidents in industries.
The activity was developed within the framework of the actions promoted by the National and International Day of Health and Safety at Work, which is commemorated this April 28.
For this purpose, two establishments have been selected in which, last Friday, the security measures once morest possible accidents that might affect the lives of workers were tested.
The first activity was carried out at the Frigorífico Guaraní plant, located in Limpio, where regarding 550 workers operate. At the site, a successful drill was carried out to evacuate the workers in the event of a possible ammonia leak or fire.
Subsequently, the company deployed the specialists and equipment it has to deal with an incident generated by the gas used in the refrigeration system and its capacity to combat fire cases.
Next, the specialists simulated assistance to a polytraumatized worker, applying first aid measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CRP), use of the automatic external defibrillator (AED) and the transfer of the injured person by ambulance to a healthcare center.
The second demonstration point was the facilities of the agroindustrial company Caiasa, located in Villeta, which has more than 100 plant operators. The drill focused on the steps that must be applied to rescue a worker injured at height, one of the most common cases of workplace accidents in our country. The company activated its emergency brigade, deployed its teams for rescue until finally preparing the patient for transfer in a specialized mobile unit.
“From the MTESS we are insisting a lot on prevention measures following the events that occurred in recent months in a sausage factory and in a food processing company. We want to raise awareness that investing in workplace safety is not an expense, because it protects the life of the worker and the company itself, since a possible accident implies a high economic cost and affects the life of the worker,” he expressed at the end of the activities. the Vice Minister of Labor, César Segovia.
The vice minister announced that the institution will continue with random controls to verify compliance with occupational health and safety measures.
April 28 has been established as the National and International Day for Safety and Health at Work, with the aim of raising awareness regarding the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational diseases throughout the world.
