Drilling, streetlights and other files: “it is time that those responsible for these thefts are prosecuted, judged and condemned” (Moïse Katumbi)

Congolese opponent Moïse Katumbi spoke out on Tuesday, July 23, to denounce the repeated embezzlement of public funds in the DRC – Democratic Republic of Congo -, particularly on drilling and streetlight projects, as well as the Francophonie Games and the financial center.

The president of the party Together for the Republic wants to see those responsible for these thefts prosecuted, tried and convicted. Because, according to him, these aforementioned projects were overcharged beyond belief.

“It is time for those responsible for these thefts to be prosecuted, tried and convicted. The embezzled money must be returned to the treasury and impunity must end,” he tweeted.

For the opponent, bringing the perpetrators of the embezzlement to justice is a crucial question of dignity for all Congolese, of social justice and of the responsibility of leaders.

“While starving soldiers left to fend for themselves for five days face the firing squad simply for seeking food, we learn that hundreds of millions of dollars have been embezzled through rigged government contracts,” he said indignantly.

It should also be noted that some are waiting for public trials in these various cases, which have clearly drained the coffers of the Congolese state.
