Dries Mertens was decisive twice with Galatasaray this Sunday. The Istanbul club dominated Pendikspor, whose only goal was scored by a former Standard player who was probably a little forgotten.
Dries Mertens confirms his great form with Galatasaray. This Sunday, the Belgian striker scored the third goal for his colors, and gave the 1-0 goal to Mauro Icardi. Galatasaray won once morest Pendikspor with a score of 4 goals to 1.
For Mertens, it was the 9th goal and 14th assist in 46 matches in all competitions this season. A great form, which suggests that the former Napoli player might well extend the pleasure for one more season, at almost 37 years old.
Thanks to this victory, Galatasaray puts pressure on Fenerbahçe by taking a 5-point lead at the top of the Turkish championship. There are only 5 days left, and the two Istanbul clubs are neck and neck for the first two places.

For the record, Pendikspor’s goal (penultimate in the Süper Lig) was scored by a certain Alpaslan Özturk (30 years). A name that will bring back memories to Standard supporters. Born in Antwerp, Özturk trained at Beerschot but signed for Standard Liège in 2013.
A great hope (he was a Belgian U21 international), Özturk never really confirmed, playing only 17 matches with the Rouches. In 2017, following two loans in Türkiye, he signed permanently for Elazigspor. Since then, he has played 146 matches in Turkish D1, worn the colors of Galatasaray and even became a Turkish international in 2021.
