Dries Mertens says goodbye to Napoli: ‘I didn’t think it would be so hard’ (VIDEO)

Dries Mertens sent a beautiful message to the Napoli club and its supporters, via a video shared on social networks.

“Dear Neapolitans, I knew this day would come eventually. But I didn’t think it would be so difficult for me. Saying goodbye to this city, which welcomed me, which loved me, which supported me in the bad and the wonderful times”, he launched, with his son in his arms.

Before continuing: “The record (note: he is the top scorer in the history of Naples) and the victories will remain in the books. But the citizens of Naples and the city will remain in my heart. I am so proud that my son Ciro was born in Naples. And when he travels the world, he will remain a Neapolitan. Me, I was not born in Naples but for nine years Naples was my home. And we all know that this city is part of my blood. I have decided to keep my house here so that I can come home here whenever I want. To all my team-mates, to the club, to the coaches, to the supporters, to my friends, and to every Neapolitan, I I only have one word to say: Thank you. My departure did not go as I had hoped. But it’s not a farewell. It’s a goodbye”.

In the rest of the video, we can see Dries Mertens sharing the best moments of his nine years spent in Naples, with his partner, his friends, the supporters, as well as on the ground.
