Every day in France, more than 400 people die of a heart disease.

“Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women as well as in men over the age of 65″, declares the French Federation of Cardiology.

The good news is that anyone can take action to reduce risk. Some of the risk factors are preventable : this is the case of a sedentary lifestyle, overweight, tobacco, alcohol and poor diet (too fatty or too salty).

A news study published within Antioxidants recommends focusing on foods rich in polyphenols to protect you against cardiovascular pathologies and type 2 diabetes. It had already been established that polyphenols decrease the obstruction of the arteries. Researchers recommend focusing on dried fruits such as peanuts.

Peanuts would reduce the risk of clots and dilation of blood vessels

Researchers from the University of Barcelona (Spain) have analyzed the effects of the consumption of peanuts on the health of 63 people, aged 18 to 33. “The objective was to assess the association between urinary phenolic metabolites and vascular biomarkers after consumption of peanut products,” shares the study which was conducted 6 months.

The participants were divided into three groups. The members of the first group consumed 25 g of roasted peanuts per day. Those in the second group were asked to eat 32g of peanut butter daily and the rest of the volunteers included 32g of a cocoa product in their daily diet.

According to the results, peanut eaters had higher urinary levels of phenolic metabolites than those who ate foods without fiber or polyphenols.

“Similarly, participants who consumed peanuts also showed improved levels of prostacyclin I2 and the ratio of thromboxane A2 and prostacyclin I2, lipid molecules that are considered markers of vascular health,” Rosa M clarified. Lamuela, author of the research, via a statement.

In other words, cardiovascular health of people who ate roasted peanuts every day improved. This study showed thatthey reduce the risk of blood clots and of dilatation blood vessels. Discover in pictures the dried fruits to put on the menu to fill up with polyphenols.
