An innovative concept… and sexist? This Friday evening, following “Star Academy”, “La Chanson secrete” and even “The Voice”, TF1 has decided to offer us a new musical competition with “Dream Team: The next generation of stars”. Rarely, this brand new program is not presented by Nikos Aliagas but by Hélène Mannarino, journalist and host, known as a columnist in “Bonjour!”, the brand new morning show on TF1, but also alongside Nicolas Canteloup in “C Canteloup”. This brand new show is therefore presented as a “talent show” intended to promote young (or almost) budding singers. The principle ? Six renowned French-speaking artists – Claudio Capéo, Black M, Lara Fabian, Camille Lellouche, Matt Pokora and Jenifer – take five young protégés under their wing. The latter, aged 8 to 14, are selected for their vocal talent and their artistic affinity with their mentor and each is like a “mini lookalike” of the “star” at the head of each team. The “teams” then compete in duels focused on vocal and choreographic performances and team cohesion. All will be submitted to the vote of a jury, made up of four personalities from the world of music and dance: Michael Jones, experienced singer and guitarist, Anggun, internationally recognized artist, Lorie Pester, icon of the 2000s, and Chris Marques, famous dancer and choreographer who largely contributes to the success of “Dancing with the Stars”. Each member of the jury has 50 points to award during the duels, while the 200 spectators present in the public also participate in the vote thanks to a system of boxes, just like “Mask Singer”. The stake for the very young candidates is not financial but rather a reward in the form of a trip, worth 4,000 euros, for each child on the winning team.

“So little girls necessarily identify with a singer?”
The teams of Jenifer and Claudio Capéo opened the ball. By covering “Riche”, a hit by Claudio Capéo, the team led by the singer of Italian origins left their mark with a gentle performance. Jenifer’s team, notably made up of Emma, the winner of “The Voice Kids” in 2018, offered a medley of the greatest hits of the very first winner of the “Star Academy”. But that unfortunately wasn’t enough: thanks to the jury’s votes, it was the Matt Pokora “team” who won their ticket for the rest of the adventure… But long before this duel, Internet users made a quick observation: the total absence of diversity in all the teams. Although the very concept of the show is to compose teams with “mini lookalikes” of each personality, on X (formerly Twitter), voices have been raised to denounce what they consider to be a manifestation of sexism. .
Their teams aren’t very diversified anyway or it’s just that they had to choose like that #DreamTeam
