Chicago (USA), June 21 (EFE).- The young Brazilian Nick Firmino had a dream debut this Wednesday in the MLS by signing the 2-2 goal for Atlanta United with New York City in the 94th minute and by embittering the double of his compatriot Gabriel Pereira for the New York team.
Firmino, who until then had excelled in the Atlanta United youth team, came onto the field in minute 87 and took just seven minutes to be decisive with a headed goal that earned a point for the team led by Mexican coach Gonzalo Pineda.
The 22-year-old Brazilian saved an Atlanta team that received New York City without being able to count on the Argentine Thiago Almada, who is back from the concentration of the Albiceleste team, nor the Greek Georgios Giakoumakis, who was out for accumulation of card and that he was also summoned with Greece.
These are illustrious casualties for Atlanta. Almada is one of the brightest talents in MLS and has seven goals and nine assists this year. Giakoumakis scored ten goals and is the second best scorer in MLS behind Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar of Germany.
The game mightn’t have started worse for Atlanta, because following 42 seconds Pereira scored the 1-0 with an excellent low and curved shot and, despite the momentary draw by Tyler Wolff (m.11), Pereira once once more gave New York the lead City in minute 56, this time with a cross shot from the right inside the area.
Firmino’s saving goal prevented defeat for an Atlanta side that drew five of its last six games, while New York tied for its fourth straight.
In the other U.S. followingnoon games, Cincinnati sealed their tenth win out of ten at home this year by beating Toronto 3-0 with goals from Colombia’s Santiago Arias and Argentina’s Luciano Acosta included. EFE
