DRC: “The soldiers and police officers responsible for the harassment on roads of national interest will be dismissed from their corps” (Daniel Mukoko Samba)

The Government of the DRC – Democratic Republic of Congo -, during its eighth meeting of the Council of Ministers, took a number of measures to combat the high cost of living.

This is how it was decided to eliminate and reduce certain taxes for products most consumed by the Congolese population, notably corn.

In taking this decision, the Government of the Republic has given priority to the general interest, to restore purchasing power to Congolese households, in a direct manner and promises that these measures will come into force as quickly as possible, in the form of a decree that Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka will have to take.

Without beating around the bush, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Economy, Daniel Mukoko Samba, during a press briefing co-hosted with his colleague from Communication and Media, Government Spokesperson, on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the RTNC press room, discussed the harassment at the barriers on the various roads of national interest.

With payments which, as Deputy Prime Minister Daniel Mukoko Samba pointed out, unfortunately have repercussions on the sale prices of certain products.

To put an end to this sad reality which is a thorn in the side, Daniel Mukoko Samba believes that “the best way for it to end is for the Congolese citizen to participate in this fight, to denounce this state of affairs. As much as the Government will make decisions regarding this situation, we call on civil society, the press to denounce and the population in general not to let it happen.”

And to hammer home: “The military and police officers at the root of the harassment on roads of national interest will be removed from their corps and the provincial and territorial authorities will be held responsible.”
