The High Military Court of the DRC – Democratic Republic of Congo – delivered its verdict, Thursday December 5, 2024, in Kinshasa, in the trial opposing the public prosecutor to the 26 members of the politico-military movement AFC – Alliance Fleuve Congo -, a rebellion belonging to Corneille Nangaa, former president of the CENI -Independent National Electoral Commission-.
The verdict handed down in the evening sentenced five accused to death, including Samafu Makinu Nicaise, M’Kangya Nyamatshaba Microbe, Nangaa Baseyane Ruttens, Safari Bishori Luc, Nkuba Shebandu Eric (alias Malembe). According to the sentence handed down, all these people tried are guilty of treason and participation in insurrectional movements.
Furthermore, for the 21 other co-accused, including Corneille Nangaa, founding president of the AFC, the High Military Court opted for a stay of the appeal procedure, in accordance with article 94 of the DR-Congolese military penal code. Clearly, they are keenly sought by Congolese justice.
“We will ensure that the death sentence is carried out against the five convicts present in Kinshasa. We will also issue international arrest warrants against Corneille Nangaa and his accomplices,” declared the Minister of State for Justice, Constant Mutamba, determined to enforce the verdict.
