The financial center of Kinshasa is the image of the Congo that every citizen seeks. With its lights and its excellence, this architectural jewel sells a shining face of the DRC. According to our sources, this project cost 265 million euros which were provided as pre-financing by the Turkish company Milvest. Under the terms of the contract, Milvest will assume joint management of the hotel in partnership with the Congolese government for a period of 49 years.
What do the people of Kinshasa say regarding this?
In a field trip this Monday, March 11, 2024, ActuRDC collected opinions from the general public on this majestic project. Robert Mubaya, a small businessman, described this project as a market of fraudulent exchanges between the country’s elite and the Turkish authorities. “We cannot accept that such infamy takes place on our soil. This project will only allow both camps to enrich themselves to the detriment of the poor Congolese people. The Congolese authorities will be the only beneficiaries of this grand scheme. »
For her part, Lisette Kaya Bokanga, a student at UPN said: “It is an insult to the Congolese people currently taken hostage by the food and security crisis. We cannot afford to throw a huge sum of money on a long-term project when agricultural feeder roads would be the best investment.”
However, the Congolese government also had a section of the population on its side. Patrick Masola praised the effort of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in the modernization of the DRC and especially the city of Kinshasa. “I am a Kinois by blood and this city means a lot to me; the fact of seeing this great work emerge from the earth really touched me. We are counting on the government’s exit for the continuation of the momentum of modernization.”
Ruth Muyamp sees this financial center as a way to reduce unemployment in the country. “We can say anything once morest the authorities, but no one is unaware that the financial center will open doors to many young people looking for jobs. If this can help support even one young person, then we can cheer already.”
