DRC: Félix Tshisekedi suspends the participation of leopards in CAF activities

The President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi suspended the participation of the DRC in all activities initiated by the CAF following the behavior of the latter during the match between the leopards and the elephants of the Ivory Coast, refusing to Congolese supporters access to the stadium but also by refusing to film the signs denouncing the unjust war in Eastern Congo.

The announcement of this news was made by Patrick Muyaya, government spokesperson during the briefing of the Council of Ministers on Friday February 9, 2024.

“The President of the Republic expressed his total disapproval of the treatment reserved for our supporters who traveled from Abidjan to attend the semi-final once morest Ivory Coast as part of the African Cup of Nations. Nations, in particular the reduction of spaces reserved for them in the stands, the ban on access to banners and materials denouncing the Rwandan aggression of which our country is the victim, etc. To react to this behavior, our national team will no longer be associated with any solidarity initiative initiated by CAF. In the same vein, the President of the Republic opened a debate on the progress of the match between the DRC and Ivory Coast, as well as the coverage by certain media,” said Patrick Muyaya.

In the process, the government spokesperson said: “The Council of Ministers sent a severe warning to France 24 as well as other media on the dissemination of certain information during this competition which erroneously image of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is unacceptable!”
