Bojan Bogdanovic, Dario Saric and Ivica Zubac are among the players traveling to the Drazen Legacy matchaccording to Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops. Last January, Aco Petrovic has revealed plans for an exhibition match in memory of his brother Drazen Petrovic on September 5 in Zagreb. In a preview, he talked about Croatian players facing players from the rest of Europe, with Zeljko Obradovic as the visitors’ head coach.
In addition to active NBA players Bogdanovic, Saric and Zubac, there are also retired players with NBA experience Damjan Rudez and Gordan Giricek are expected to participate in the Drazen Legacy match.
For Bogdanovic, the game marks his return from surgery on his left foot and wrist last April. Following season-ending injuries, he was traded from the New York Knicks to the Brooklyn Nets in July. Barring any setbacks, playing in Zagreb on September 5 confirms initial expectations of a clearance for the 2024 NBA Preseason.
Denver Nuggets’ Saric and Los Angeles Clippers’ Zubac competed in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus. Their efforts failed to secure a spot at the Olympic Games.
A huge star of Croatian and European basketball, Drazen Petrovic died in a car accident on June 7, 1993. After a brilliant start to his career in Europe, with two EuroLeague championships with Cibona in 1985 and 1986, Petrovic had just finished four seasons in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets and the Portland Trail Blazers before his death.
