The Central African Republic and Madagascar teams respectively conceded a 1-1 draw once morest Ghana and Angola, in group E of the CAN 2023 qualifiers, on June 5, 2022.
Beaten on the first day of qualifying for the CAN 2023the Central African and Madagascar teams this time conceded a draw on the second day in Group E. Whether in Luanda, where the Central Africans “welcomed” the Ghanaians, or in Mahamasina, where the Malagasy received the Angolans, the final score was 1-1.
Kudus’ jewel, the shock for Mensah
In Luanda, the Black Stars of Ghana opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Thanks to a good triangle play on the right wing, midfielder Mohammed Kudus indeed had time to roll up a shot with his left foot which ended its trajectory in the opposite side netting: 0-1.
Clearly dominant in the game, the Ghanaians were however punished in the 40th minute when they lost a ball in the center circle. Karl Namnganda, launched deep, overtakes the opposing defense and adjusts goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi with a powerful shot: 1-1.
Shortly before the hour mark, the game was interrupted following an aerial duel that went wrong between Peter Guinari and Jonathan Mensah. The Central African defender is seriously injured in the head, while the Ghanaian stopper is simply taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Despite the support of the Malagasy public
In Mahamasina, left winger Loic Lapoussin took advantage of a hazardous exit from Hugo Marques to score in the cage left empty by the doorman of the Angolan selection (1-0, 35th). But in the 42nd minute, the Angolans equalized when attacking midfielder Fredy sinks on the right before sending a cross to the far post taken from a diving header by center forward Gelson Dala (1-1, 44th) .
Despite the support of their public, the Barea had to settle for a small point. After two days of playoffs, they are last in the standings, just behind the Fauves du Bas-Oubangui (1 point). Ghana is first with 4 points, just ahead of second Angola with 4 points as well.
