Drasop Bridge: Demolition and Construction Updates for Brussels Ring Road

2023-09-24 08:35:00

Last night a contractor dismantled the Drasop Bridge, which was badly damaged in a 2019 collision.

Construction of the new bridge will begin tomorrow/Monday. Initially, the work will take place on the tracks towards Ittre/Charleroi, which will lead to a narrowing of the traffic lanes. The construction site with the narrowed lanes will remain in place until the end of the work scheduled for summer 2024. At the beginning of next year, traffic in the direction of Grand-Bigard will in turn be modified and diverted towards the other half of the roadway.

Demolition of the Drasop bridge: disruptions expected on the Brussels ring road this weekend

A truck carrying paper hit the underside of the bridge in August 2019. The vehicle caught fire and damaged one of the steel beams of the structure. Since the accident, the bridge has been closed to motorized traffic.

Last night, the Drasop bridge was finally demolished, leading to the closure of the section between the Huizingen (n°20) and Hal (n°21) exits for several hours.
