Passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight experienced an episode of panic and relief at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. An explosion followed by a fire in one of the aircraft’s tires, which occurred following landing, forced a hasty and desperate evacuation, an event that many would describe as a dramatic experience.
It was last Wednesday followingnoon when Delta Air Lines flight 1437, from Richmond, landed in Atlanta, marking the beginning of an unexpected and alarming event. After the plane’s contact with the runway, an abrupt explosion deafened the passengers: one of the rear tires had exploded.
The aircraft lost control, skidding violently before the pilot, with sharp reflexes, might hit the brake. However, the tire, under intense pressure, failed to resist and caught fire.
The ensuing chaos was documented in a series of videos circulating on social media. In these, you can see how the inflatable slides quickly unfolded, providing an escape route for the passengers.
As the scene unfolded, travelers were quickly sliding down the slides, abandoning their belongings in the aircraft, while a fire truck tried to control the blaze, spraying a powerful stream of water towards the burning tire.
According to initial reports, the Delta Air Lines flight was carrying 190 passengers. Despite the gravity of the situation, the cabin crew and the ground crew worked together to achieve one goal: to evacuate everyone safely.
In total, more than 100 people participated in the emergency response. However, in the midst of the eviction, one person was injured. So far, no details regarding the nature of the injury or his state of health have been released.
Once the emergency was under control, the passengers were transported to the Atlanta airport terminal by buses. Delta Air Lines later issued a statement apologizing to passengers for the terrifying experience.
For its part, the Federal Aviation Administration has already launched a comprehensive investigation into the crash, in an effort to understand how and why this disturbing incident occurred at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
