In a decree read on the national television news, this Friday, January 5, 2024, the president of the transition, Colonel Mamady Doumboya, awarded a rescue medal to all Guinean actors and to all friendly countries for their “ act of heroism in fighting the fire and their contribution to saving human lives” following the fire at the Kaloum central hydrocarbon depot which occurred on the night of December 17 to 18, 2023.

Several neighboring countries, notably Senegal, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast, helped Guinean firefighters put out this gigantic fire. Others dispatched specialized doctors and others announced material aid.

Cote d’Ivoire has committed to delivering fuel to Guinea to the tune of 50 million liters per month in order to overcome this difficult ordeal. On the Sierra Leone side, the first fuel tankers already arrived in Guinea just a few days later.

Regarding moral and financial support, a good number of African countries and elsewhere have come forward to help Guinea in this tragedy.

On the other hand, since the day of this explosion, all activities in the country have almost come to a standstill due to the rationalization of fuel at the pump.
