“Mass killings where there are several deaths at the same time, in the majority of cases, these are not psychiatric hospital patients,” said psychiatrist Gilles Chamberland, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

“If they are terrorists, they will claim their gesture. If these are people who want to be known, who want their name to circulate, then it is more difficult to predict.

He believes that when it comes to psychiatric patients, “unfortunately, sometimes you can predict it.” According to him, warning signs “in retrospect, we can always find some”.

“The problem is that there are a lot of people who are going to give these same kinds of signs and never do anything.”

For the Dr Chamberland, however, professionals must not make them feel guilty, they must rather “learn lessons, do prevention”.
