Drama in a stadium in Indonesia: CAF offers its condolences

“The President of the African Football Confederation (“CAF”), Dr Patrice Motsepe expresses his deepest condolences, on behalf of CAF, to the Asian Football Confederation (“CAF”), to its President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, and the families of football spectators who died during the game between Arema Football Club and Persebaya Surabaya in Malang City, Indonesia. CAF also wishes spectators injured during the match a speedy and full recovery. »

According to local authorities, at least 174 people lost their lives in a mob including thousands of Indonesians. Many are still hospitalized, between life and death.

During the eleventh day of the Indonesian football championship, called ” GO-JEK Traveloka Liga 1″, Arema FC received Persebaya Surabaya for the traditional derby under the eyes of 42,000 spectators. And the locals lost, for the first time in twenty years, to their great rivals (2-3).

A setback that did not pass in the eyes of Indonesian supporters. At the final whistle, more than 3,000 supporters invaded the pitch, creating a huge crowd movement.
