The 21st Doha World Championships will remain indelibly etched in the minds of Nora Drakou and Anna Doudunaki, for different reasons.
Nora Drakou spoke on the website of the Greek Swimming Federation and said:
Nora Drakou: “This return is very sweet. A very nice world championship for me, following many years I made a championship that I had worked hard for and deserved. We qualified for the Olympics which was my main goal with the amazing team in the 4x100m medley, which reached 11th in the world and why not a final in Paris. The 50m backstroke final came following nine years. It was something ideal, I enjoyed it and for the first time I enjoyed a final so much. And a national record, let’s not forget it. I started with the mindset that I would take part in the 2012 Olympics and then stop, now that I’m here at 32 and talking to you regarding the 4th Olympics I’m regarding to take part in, it wasn’t in my plans.
But life decided it…Only when I leave the pool will I understand what has happened and what I have achieved all these years. I am very happy and proud that despite the difficulties I remain at a high level”.
