The Italian head of government only wanted to remain in office if there was a “new pact of trust”. This did not come regarding, so Draghi’s resignation is more likely.

After a grueling day, Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi has won an important vote of confidence in the Senate. Nevertheless, the end of his governing coalition seems to be sealed. Because with Matteo Salvini’s Lega, Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia and Giuseppe Conte’s Cinque Stella, three of the most important governing parties abstained or did not take part in the vote at all.
