It is midnight and 11 minutes this Saturday August 26 when shouts of joy resound in many bars in France. At Boum in Marseille, at Blue Zinc in Le Mans, at Brassés in Nantes, at Yoyo or at Who’s in Paris. Everywhere, the same jubilation when the drag-queen and host of “Drag Race France”, Nicky Doll, finally pronounces the name of the winner: Keiona.

At the Food Society, a large “food court” near the Montparnasse station in Paris, regarding five hundred came to watch the outcome of season 2 of this drag-queen competition, the French version of the successful franchise “RuPaul’s Drag Race”, and broadcast this summer on France 2 and France.tv.

For two months every Friday, everyone has carefully observed the “maxi-challenges” which opposed the queens: fashion, comedy or even dance events. Before the broadcast of the final episode and its conclusion which will explode the decibel meters of the bar, everyone therefore has a very clear opinion on the burning question that is being asked in the bays: “And you, who do you support? »

For this season 2, the retransmissions in bars animated by drag-queens – the viewing parties, as they are called – have therefore sprouted like mushrooms in France. The drag Coco Ricard, Nicolas in civilian life, has been organizing that of the Food Society since this summer. After warming up the room with drag-king Juda La Vidange and queen Leonie Styx, she tells us regarding the genesis of the event behind the scenes, while changing her wig and outfit. “It really filled up more and more over the summer”explains this “cagole” character from the South.
