The World Health Organization (WHO) has already declared an international emergency due to the increase in cases, many more contagious, of the so-called “monkeypox” and Cuba, through Dr. Francisco Durán García, provided an update on the particular case of the island.

The National Director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the MINSAP, detailed to the official press, such as the Granma newspaper, that they They maintain epidemiological surveillance following the successful control of monkeypox cases in 2022.

Duran Garcia reported that currently no cases are recorded of the disease in Cuba. However, the country remains on alert and maintains active epidemiological surveillance.

Durán García recalled that eight cases of the disease were detected in the country in 2022, which were promptly controlled. He also explained that the disease is transmitted through direct or indirect contact with blood, bodily fluids or skin lesions.

He also stressed that transmission can also occur during sexual intercourse. Unlike other sexually transmitted infections, this disease cannot be prevented by using a condom alone, as infection also occurs through body-to-body contact.
