It was in 1996 that a few friends, all reggae fans, created Doktor Deslai, in Hendaye.
Like the city, Doktor Deslai brings together musicians from both sides of the Bidasoa: Stéphane Bivalski, Iñaki Valderrama and Josetxo Mintegi.
Although in the 90s, metal, rock, punk rock and ska were very widespread, Doktor Deslai knew how to find his place in the musical panorama, and had a nice success.
Reggae, dub and ragga at the heart of Doktor Deslai
The group has released three studio albums, two entirely in Basque (Addis Ababa in 1996 and Wadada Egunero in 2000) and one mostly in Spanish (Viviendo en Babilonia, in 1999).
In concert, Doktor Deslai had a real presence, and a musical quality at the top, thanks to his talented musicians.
“Afrika Hiltzen” takes up a classic theme of reggae, solidarity with the brothers and sisters of Africa who suffer and die, in the indifference of Westerners stuck comfortably in their armchairs.
