Appointed following the Council of Ministers of June 25, 2024, the new Director General of Health Promotion (DGPS) was officially installed in his functions by the Minister of Health, Pr Adrien Mougougou, Thursday, July 25, 2024 in Libreville.
During this sober ceremony, the Minister of Health did not fail to emphasize the importance of the DGPS in the constant search for balance between curative and preventive care. “When we act on the preventive, we limit the expenses concerning the curative” he said. The government member therefore insisted on the crucial role of health prevention in the fight against various diseases.
Dr Armel Boubindji Nzobaba said he was fully aware of the missions assigned to him. “We are aware of the issues and challenges, health promotion, health education, disease control, strengthening primary health care and community engagement” he said, before indicating that these aspects must gradually occupy a predominant place in the health system.
The Directorate-General for Health Promotion is responsible for promoting health activities in the field of curative medicine, preventive medicine, re-education and rehabilitation. It plays a crucial role for the public authorities in the fight against certain pandemics, epidemics and other diseases.
The new DGPS is a doctor who has been working for over 15 years. He notably worked at the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Libreville, after having been Chief Physician of the Lébamba Medical Center and Director General of the Gabonese Red Cross.
