Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that judges did not need to take mass leave to protest issues related to welfare which received little attention from the Government.

According to him, judges can use other methods to express their aspirations, without having to go on strike simultaneously.

“It would be better for judges to express their aspirations without having to carry out actions like that. As far as I know, the Chairman of the Judicial Commission (KY) has also met with the elected presidential candidate in the 2024 Election Prabowo Subianto in the context of the welfare of judges,” said Dasco at the Nusantara II DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, today.

Regarding the welfare level of these judges, he continued, a number of proposals will be attempted to be realized by the next government.

“We have submitted several proposals, God willing, they will be realized during the next Prabowo-Gibran government,” said the Gerindra politician.

Judges who are members of the Indonesian Judges Solidarity are taking mass leave in response to the low salaries and allowances for judges in the last 12 years.

They claim that judges experience a number of difficulties ranging from housing to finances when assigned to the regions.

At the same time, judges are required to maintain their independence, and not be tempted by the lure of individuals in litigation.

Based on information from Indonesian Judge Solidarity, the joint leave action was held through three plans.

First, judges who took leave went to Jakarta to join the ranks of judges who held demonstrations.

Second, the judge will take leave and stay at home as a form of support for his colleagues who are struggling in Jakarta. Third, judges whose annual leave rights have expired will be encouraged to vacate their court schedule for October 7-11. (Ant/P-2)
