DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani revealed that the DPR received thousands of complaints from the public submitted in writing, both physically and online via the DPR RI website.
“From August 16, 2023 to July 31, 2024, the Indonesian House of Representatives has received 195 physical letters of public aspirations and complaints and 4,016 letters via the website,” said Puan in a special Plenary Meeting for the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Anniversary, Thursday (29/8).
According to Puan, there are three problem areas that dominate public aspirations and complaints, the details of which are as many as 1,282 complaint letters related to legal problems, 281 related to land and agrarian reform, and 108 related to education.
“The aspirations have been forwarded to the relevant Council Equipment (AKD) to be followed up with their working partners,” he explained.
Puan also said that the DPR is increasingly required to act quickly in responding to people’s affairs. The DPR is also required to always be close to and side with the people, and the DPR is expected to have sharp substance.
“The Indonesian House of Representatives is also expected to have honor according to its position, and behave in a manner that pays attention to a sense of propriety and social justice,” said Puan.

The results of the DPR’s performance that Puan has conveyed will be compiled in detail in the DPR RI performance report book for the 2023-2024 Session Year. Puan said, this Performance is the result of the work of all members of the DPR RI and the DPR RI AKD.
“Only the people will judge all the hard work, whether the DPR RI has carried out the power given by the people seriously?” he said.
Furthermore, Puan ensured that the DPR is always open to criticism and self-criticism so that it can improve its performance as a people’s representative who carries out the people’s mandate.

The former Coordinating Minister for PMK also invited all honorable members of the council to work together to build an institution of the DPR RI with integrity. In addition, according to Puan, so that the DPR has the honor according to its position, and unites the people in the spirit of mutual cooperation to build Indonesia.
“In line with the commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia and the 79th Anniversary of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to perfect the implementation of people’s sovereignty: the power of the Indonesian House of Representatives comes from the people, so it is the obligation of the Indonesian House of Representatives to use its power for the interests and welfare of the people,” he explained.
Puan then thanked all the people of Indonesia.
“On behalf of the DPR RI Leadership and all DPR RI Members, we express our gratitude to all Indonesian people who have given us their trust and mandate to implement people’s sovereignty,” said Puan.
