Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Legislative Body (Baleg) Ahmad Doli Kurnia proposed that nominations in the Village Head Election (Pilkades) use a political party system.
He considers that the village head election is a political activity that without realizing it also uses the party system. However, the party in question is not a registered political party, but rather political groups in the village.
“Even though their candidacy uses parties, the only difference is the jackfruit party, the papaya party, the goat party, but they also use parties. This means that the party mechanism and system has actually been included in the Village Head Election,” said Doli during a hearing at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta. , Today.

So he proposed that nominations in the village elections use existing parties. According to him, this could also be an effort to build the political system down to the lowest level.
“So that criticism of political parties regarding political identity no longer exists, because it reaches the bottom of community involvement,” he said.
For this reason, he admitted that he would propose this further if the Bill on Political Parties or other bills related to elections had been discussed in the DPR.

In addition, one of the DPR RI Baleg members previously proposed that the General Election Commission (KPU) be made an ad hoc institution that would only be held for two years for the preparation and implementation of the General Election.
However, if the village election system is also regulated in more detail, according to Doli, the KPU can remain a permanent institution and not ad hoc. Moreover, he considered that the Village Head Election was more dynamic, and even tended to be more vulnerable.
“When talking about election fatalities and fatalities, there are more election fatalities in villages compared to legislative elections, regional elections,” he said. (Ant/P-2)

**Interview with Ahmad Doli Kurnia: Proposal for Political Party Involvement in Village Head Elections**
*Interviewer:* Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Ahmad Doli Kurnia. You’ve recently proposed that the nominations for Village Head elections incorporate a political party system. Can you elaborate on the rationale behind this suggestion?
*Ahmad Doli Kurnia:* Thank you for having me. The primary reason for this proposal is to recognize the inherent political nature of village head elections. Even though the parties that some candidates align with may not be registered political parties, they do operate as informal political groups within the village structure. This already reflects a party system, albeit an unconventional one.
*Interviewer:* Interesting perspective. You mentioned that the village head elections currently replicate a party mechanism. How would formalizing this process benefit the elections and the community?
*Ahmad Doli Kurnia:* By formalizing these nominations through registered political parties, we can create a more structured and transparent process. This shift could facilitate better accountability and ensure that candidates are backed by platforms with clear agendas. It would also encourage political engagement and awareness among villagers, aligning local governance more closely with national political frameworks.
*Interviewer:* It sounds like it could bring more legitimacy to the process. However, do you foresee any challenges or opposition to this proposal?
*Ahmad Doli Kurnia:* Absolutely. Change is often met with resistance, especially when it comes to long-standing traditions like village head elections. Some may fear that this could lead to increased political maneuvering and party politics undermining local autonomy. The key, however, will be to ensure that the essence of these elections—community participation and representation—remains intact.
*Interviewer:* Thank you for sharing your insights, Mr. Kurnia. It will be interesting to see how this proposal develops and its potential impact on local governance in the future.
*Ahmad Doli Kurnia:* Thank you for the opportunity to discuss this important issue. I believe that with careful implementation, we can enhance the democratic process at the village level.
