DPR Denies Discussion of Several Bills Was Carried Out in Haste – 2024-07-16 05:52:49

Plenary closing of Session V (MI / Susanto)

MEMBER of Commission I of the DPR, Dave Akbarshah Fikarno, denied that the discussion of the Draft Law (RUU) was being rushed.

Especially in the discussion and ratification of a number of bills, namely the TNI Bill, the Polri Bill, the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) and the State Ministries.

Dave claims DPR has complied with the prevailing rules.

“Of course all the rules are followed and no stages are cut,” Dave told Media Indonesia, Sunday (14/7).

In fact, Dave said that if the Wantimpres Bill might be completed quickly, why should the DPR delay it?

“If it can be finished quickly, why should it be slowed down?” he stressed.

Dave also said that each law has a function and purpose that cannot be equated in terms of the speed of the process. “Different laws have different functions and purposes,” said Dave.

Previously, constitutional law expert from Andalas University (Unand) Feri Amsari said that the discussion of the law package too quickly violated the Constitutional Court decision Number 91 and violated the Law on the Formation of Legislation.

“There must be public participation, meaningful participation in the formation of laws,” said Feri to Media Indonesia, Sunday (14/7).

According to him, the discussion of the bill must fulfill three rights, namely, the right to be heard, the right to have one’s opinion accepted and the right to receive an explanation, not to have one’s opinion rejected.

If it is done in a hurry, said Feri, it will definitely not meet the standards of the three rights.

Feri assessed that this was a serious problem in the formation of laws if they did not obey the decisions of the Constitutional Court and the laws that the council members made themselves.

“However, the current government’s style is to ignore all public views and force what they want to do,” Feri stressed. (Z-8)
