DPR Completes 63 Bills in 2023–2024 Session Period

DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani said that the DPR together with the government during the 2023–2024 session period had completed discussions on 63 draft laws to be passed into law.

“In carrying out its legislative function, the Indonesian House of Representatives together with the government have succeeded in completing 63 titles of draft laws into laws, consisting of six bills that are included in the Prolegnas (National Legislation Program) list and 57 cumulative open bills,” said Puan as quoted by Antara, Thursday (29/8)

This was conveyed by Puan Maharani in her speech to commemorate the 79th Anniversary of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the delivery of the performance report of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2023–2024 Session Year at the Nusantara II Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (29/8).

He detailed the six laws (UU) originating from the Prolegnas list, namely the Law on Amendments to Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the National Capital, the Law on the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions, and the Law on the Special Region of Jakarta Province.

Then, the Law on Amendments to Law Number 5 of 2014 concerning State Civil Apparatus, the Law on the Welfare of Mothers and Children in the First Thousand Days of Life, and the Law on Amendments to Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and their Ecosystems.

Puan said that the DPR together with the government will also continue discussing 16 bills that are currently under level I discussion in the next session year.

“The Indonesian House of Representatives and the government in forming laws must comply with the constitution, laws and regulations, formal requirements determined by law, so that the resulting laws have strong legitimacy,” he said.

Meanwhile, in carrying out the budget function, Puan said that the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) by using budget rights to ensure that the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) for the 2024 Fiscal Year can support the task of organizing government in various fields, implementing elections, social protection, and so on.

“And ensure the fiscal policy of the 2025 State Budget to provide fiscal space for the new government to come,” he said.

In the 2023–2024 session year, Puan detailed that the DPR’s supervisory function is directed at preparations for the 2024 General Election, preparations for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, handling shortages and price increases of basic foodstuffs, and handling cases of violence against women and children.

Then, handling the acceleration of stunting reduction, handling the rampant illegal online loans and online gambling, hacking of national data centers and national cyber security, land mafia, and global economic pressure on monetary and fiscal conditions. (Ant/P-5)
