MEMBER of Commission VII DPR RI, Mulyanto, asked the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan to take the case of modification of the fuel dispenser which was detrimental to the public at the Karawang Rest Area gas station, West Java, to legal action or be punished.

He said the Minister of Trade might not just give a verbal warning to the naughty gas station manager because his actions were a criminal act. Mulyanto said that as a result of this fraudulent act, the state and society were harmed.

“The government must take firm action once morest individual and corporate perpetrators regarding this problem. Especially during the month of Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr like now, where there is an increase in consumer demand for fuel,” explained Mulyanto, quoted from a statement received on Thursday (28/3 ).

Mulyanto said that cheating in fuel measurements at gas stations is an old problem that continues to recur. The cheating tricks are also known. However, the fact is that cases like this keep recurring.

He said the reason was that the punishment for this crime was relatively light, both for the perpetrator and the gas station. Pertamina or the Ministry of Trade should not hesitate to take firm action once morest the perpetrators of this crime in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law and the Legal Metrology Law.

“Pertamina should revoke the permits of gas stations that are proven guilty of violating the law by cheating the public. Also for subsidized fuel, I urge BPH Migas not to provide subsidized fuel quotas to gas stations that commit this fraudulent act which is detrimental to people who cannot afford subsidized fuel. Moreover, this fraud “It’s not just a few days or weeks, it’s happening for years. This is really detrimental to those who are entitled to subsidies,” emphasized Mulyanto.

Previously there was a similar case in Serang Regency, Banten. Gas station managers have been cheating consumers by reducing dosages for years. This naughty practice was revealed by the Banten Regional Police (Polda).
