CHAIRMAN of Commission II DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung dismissed the existence of Article 55 of the Jakarta Special Region Draft Law (RUU DKJ) regarding the position of vice president (wapres) of the Regional Council to coordinate spatial planning and development of agglomeration areas which had been planned for a long time. This answers the issue that the regulation is to give more authority to Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the future.

“The concept was discussed a year ago, it had nothing to do with it at that time, we didn’t know who the presidential candidate was and who the vice presidential candidate was, so please straighten this out, this concept is an old concept,” said Doli at the Golkar Party DPP Office, West Jakarta, Sunday evening , (10/3).

Doli said the regulation uses instruments such as the six new provinces resulting from the expansion in Papua. Vice President Ma’ruf Amin was appointed Chair of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy for Papua (BP3OKP) or known as the Papua Steering Committee (BPP) to handle the province which does not yet have a regional head.

“Now Mr. Ma’ruf Amin is the chairman of the steering committee regarding Papua, so it’s the same,” said Doli.

The Deputy General Chair of the Golkar Party said that to handle the province with its various problems requires cross-coordinating ministers (menko). Doli said that only the vice president or president has the capacity to direct.

“It is not enough for one coordinating minister to handle problems such as agglomeration around Jakarta, that’s why the choice is president or vice president. Well, because this is coordinating only a few regions, the president is coordinating throughout Indonesia, that’s why he is appointed by the vice president,” said Doli.

Previously, the existence of Article 55 of the DKJ Bill concerning the position of vice president of the Regional Council to coordinate spatial planning and development of agglomeration areas was considered to be full of interests for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Namely, to give power to his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, if he is elected vice president.

“This is Jokowi’s attempt to give power to Gibran,” said Executive Director of Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO) Dedi Kurnia Syah Putra when contacted by Medcom.id, Sunday, March 10 2024.

For your information, Article 55 of the DKJ Draft Law states that to coordinate spatial planning and development plans for agglomeration areas, an Agglomeration Area Council will be formed. This council will be chaired by the vice president.

The Vice President will have a strategic function in the form of coordinating the implementation of spatial planning in agglomeration areas. (Z-8)
