DEPUTY Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Pangeran Khairul Saleh, appreciated the Judicial Commission (KY) which gave strict sanctions in the form of permanent dismissal with pension rights to three judges of the Surabaya District Court (PN) who acquitted Gregorius Ronald Tannur.

The DPR considered this step as proof that enforcing the ethics and integrity of judges in Indonesia is still a priority.

“This is a positive step to ensure that ethical violations are not left unpunished. Indonesia still has justice. Transparency and accountability in law enforcement are priorities,” said Pangeran in Jakarta, Friday (30/8).

The case began with a controversial decision made by the chief judge of the Surabaya District Court, Erintuah Damanik, along with two other judges, Mangapul and Heru Hanindyo. They decided to acquit Ronald Tannur, the son of a former member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, of the assault charge that caused the death of his girlfriend, Dini Sera Afrianti. In its decision, the panel of judges stated that Ronald was not proven to have committed a crime, on the grounds that he was still trying to provide assistance to the victim when she was critical by taking her to the hospital.

The acquittal decision sparked public outrage, with demonstrations and strong reactions on social media. The House of Representatives Commission III immediately monitored the case, including holding hearings with the victim’s family demanding justice.

The KY’s move to dismiss these three judges cannot be separated from the strict supervision carried out by various elements of society, as well as strong encouragement from the DPR.

“The KY’s decision to dismiss the three judges who acquitted Ronald Tannur was inseparable from the joint supervision of the people, including the contribution of various other elements of society who helped oversee the creation of justice for the victim,” added the PAN Faction Politician.

He also emphasized the importance of public participation in the process of monitoring the judicial system. According to him, the KY’s decision is not only a firm law enforcement, but also a form of justice. (DPR/Z-3)
