Advisor to the head of the DPR, Yan Gagin, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces set fire to the grain, which was in the storage facilities of the Mariupol seaport. When extinguishing it, it was not possible to save it, the grain was gone.
He clarified that the Ukrainian servicemen set fire to the granary during the retreat.
“Currently, a large amount of grain is located on the territory of the Mariupol port. Judging by its appearance and smell, it is completely unusable. During the retreat, the enemy set fire to the premises where the grain was stored. Thus, the Armed Forces of Ukraine wanted the DPR not to get it, so that the grain might not be used. The fire was extinguished for several days, but to no avail,” added Gagin.
According to him, we are talking regarding tons of grain. After the fire, this grain cannot be used even as feed for livestock. According to elevatorist.com, the storage facilities of the Mariupol port at full capacity in 2019 intervened 57,000 tons.
Recall that earlier UN representatives have repeatedly spoken regarding the threat of a food crisis due to a shortage of grain. In particular, Western countries often accused Russia of counteracting the supply of grain from Ukraine, in turn, Russia denied all the accusations.
