DPR Approves Indonesian Citizenship for Three Footballers to Strengthen National Teams

Jakarta

Commission XIII DPR RI approved granting Indonesian citizen status to three footballers of Indonesian descent. They are Kevin Dicks, Noa Johanna Christina Cornelia Leatomu dan Estella Raquel Loupattij.

This decision was taken at the Commission XIII meeting, Nusantara II Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday (4/11/2024). The meeting was attended directly by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo, and the Secretary General of PSSI Yunus Nusi.

Initially, Menpora Dito submitted three names to be considered for granting Indonesian citizenship status. Dito said the consideration for giving a recommendation for naturalization was because the three athletes were needed to strengthen the national team in the international arena.

“The three football athletes in question are Dutch citizens who wish to become Indonesian citizens because they are needed to strengthen the Indonesian National Football Team. “Meanwhile, empowering Noa Johanna Christina Cornelia Leatomu and Estella Raquel Loupattij in the short term under 5 years is needed to strengthen the 2024 AFF Women’s Cup matches which will be held in November and December. Strengthening the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Round 1 and Round 2 matches in in 2025, and FIFA Women’s Match Day in 2025. Indonesian Football: A Citizenship Twist!

Jakarta is buzzing with excitement—and no, it’s not just because someone in the crowd found a decent kopi, but rather the unexpected twist in the world of football! Commission XIII of the DPR RI, in a rather delightful show of hands, has approved Indonesian citizenship for three footballers of Indonesian descent. Call it a game of football bingo, but it appears they’re going for a distinct competitive advantage!

The trio of footballers getting their golden tickets are Kevin Diks, Noa Johanna Christina Cornelia Leatomu, and Estella Raquel Loupattij. If they all played musical chairs, it would make for a dramatic scene—Dutch citizens lining up to obtain a passport for one of the most sprawling archipelagos in the world! The meeting to discuss this pivotal decision was overseen by none other than the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, and Secretary General of PSSI, Yunus Nusi. Quite the power couple, we must say!

Let’s take a moment to ponder this: you’ve got a sport that barely survives with fans losing interest faster than a kid at a geography lesson, and suddenly, voila! The solution lies with some Dutch lads and lasses wishing to don the Indonesian jersey. Dito was clear: these athletes are expected to strut their stuff and pump up Indonesia’s presence at upcoming international tournaments. Quite the strategy; one could call it ‘Project: Pull the Dutch.’

Why the Rush?

Dito mentioned the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers as a major reason for this rush. Clearly, he’s looking ahead to a time when Indonesian football might finally step out of obscurity and into the limelight. Seems like they believe that adding a few foreign-born players—not that we should say who they are—might snag a victory or two.

Additionally, we have the upcoming ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027. The lofty expectation is for the national team to break into the top 100 in the FIFA rankings and maybe, just maybe, join the ranks of the top 10 in Asia. Goals sound familiar? It’s almost like hearing my aunt at family gatherings claiming she’s just *one diet away* from fitting into her wedding dress!

The Ladies Are Coming!

But it’s not just the lads getting the spotlight. Noa and Estella are set to spice things up in the women’s national team.

They’re expected to help kick off Indonesia’s campaign in the 2024 AFF Women’s Cup, while also preparing for qualifying rounds of the 2026 AFC U20 Asian Cup. Dito his charms, or should we say, his “goals,” encompass plans for the ladies to get it done in this roundball showcase. Bring on the sparkly jerseys and motivational posters, because they’re aiming for the heavens: qualifying for the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup and smashing the FIFA ranking to the illustrious *40th* position! The last time I saw ambitions like that, it was my mate who claimed he’d be a millionaire by the time he hit thirty—always a charmer, that one.

Decisions, Decisions!

Now, how did they reach this decision? Chairman of Commission XIII, Willy Aditya, seemed to throw a theoretical tap dance around the inquiry for agreement, but it turned out to be a simple “Agreed.” Perhaps he sensed the undeniable flair some Dutch football might bring to the field. Everybody loves a bit of flair, don’t they?

In a plot twist worthy of a soap opera, these footballers could very well be the new “ammunition,” as the article puts it, for the national team. And who knows? We might see them strutting their stuff soon, converting corners and (hopefully) a few more goals than we’ve seen previously. Fingers crossed they don’t turn into national treasures who prefer baking bread over penetrating defenses!

So here’s hoping that as the national team welcomes its new foreign prospects, they’ll have the grit, determination, and maybe even a Dutch lollipop to help them succeed! In a world where football can make or break a nation’s spirit, here’s to finding out if these naturalized players really have what it takes or if we’ll be back to square one—complete with shameful World Cup exits and lost dreams!
