Before that, at 0:00 on January 31, the Hai Chau District Police force suddenly raided New Phuong Dong discotheque when there were hundreds of guests present inside the discotheque and many people illegally used drugs.

Police forces quickly controlled a number of guest tables with many people showing signs of drug use. At these tables, subjects Vo Ngoc Phi, Phan Van Kiem and some other subjects were found to illegally possess 30.5 pills of ecstasy and 2 packs of ketamine.

Conducting a quick test of 43 people at these tables, the functional forces identified 38 cases positive for drugs. The police agency also randomly tested some other guests present at the dance hall, discovered 26 more cases positive for drugs, bringing the total number of guests positive for drugs at the New Disco Orient at that time amounted to 64 people.
