O Fedora 39 was released this week and is now available for download. The software can be downloaded since it went live this Tuesday (7), one day following the first launch of the system completed 20 years. The new summer arrives a few months following 38, launched in April this year.
The update brings the distro on par with Ubuntu 23.10, which also comes with Linux version 6.5 as its kernel. Not only that, but the software also comes with GNOME 45, which highlights a new way of managing extensions. Matthew Miller is the current leader of Fedora Project and commented on the news:
[o ambiente atualizado] brings better performance and many usability improvements, including a new desktop switcher and a much-improved image viewer
One of its new features is GNOME 45, a new default program for opening images, which offers a more modern experience, as well as printing support. In addition, it is possible to have access to hardware acceleration in video decoding, as well as a reduction in mouse cursor latency.
In terms of package management, the new GNOME allows you to remove apps installed via Flatpak more easily. Fedora 39 still comes with its entire ecosystem of programs available in the latest version.
