The british indie rock band Doves have recently embarked on a series of shows without their iconic frontman Jimi Goodwin. Goodwin, who is focusing on his recovery, stepped back from performing to prioritize his well-being. While he’s absent from the stage, his presence is still deeply felt by his bandmates.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, drummer Andy Williams shared insights into performing without Goodwin. “It felt like Jimi was there in spirit,” he said, reflecting on their recent performances. “He isn’t here at the moment but is very much a part of us.”
Williams acknowledges the challenges they’ve faced but emphasizes the healing power of continuing to make music. “We’ve all really been through the wringer, but no one’s fallen out over this. I’m really proud of us for still being good friends.”
Despite Goodwin’s absence, the band has received his full support. “I got my complete blessing,” Goodwin revealed in a previous interview with NME, highlighting his brothers’ dedication to keeping the band alive.
“I’m absolutely thrilled for them,” he continued. “They still want to be jobbing and gigging musicians. It’s part of the package for them, and it is indeed for me too,but right now I don’t want to upset any apple carts. You’ve not heard the last of me performing again with Doves.”
The band’s new album,Constellations For The Lonely, is scheduled for release in February 2025,their first full-length project since 2020’s chart-topping album.
