OLED is slowly making its way into the world of computer monitors and this new product is a good example of that. Designed by the European company Dough, the Spectrum Black is a 32-inch monitor equipped with a 4K OLED panel that can go up to 240 Hz, which will be of particular interest to gamers. Its price is also much more attractive than previous offers, with a pre-order price of 699 € and an advertised retail price of €1,099. For comparison, LG released a 27-inch 4K screen last fall with an OLED panel and sold for $2,000.

Admittedly, 32 inches in 4K does not offer the level of detail of the Retina screens designed by Apple, which are in 5K for 27 inches or 6K on this size of panel. Nevertheless, OLED has many arguments to make, starting with its almost infinite contrasts, with very black blacks and bright colors. The manufacturer has followed the path taken by Apple, opting for glossy glass so as not to reduce the beauty of this slab, but a glass supplied by Corning and which promises to keep the advantages of a glossy slab by limiting reflections.

Also following Apple’s strategy, this new generation glossy panel is an option that will increase the asking price, without reaching the price of the options headed all the same. To have the glossy DXC panel, count 799 € for pre-order or 1,299 € during the public sale, which is still reasonable. This price is also associated with a two-year warranty which covers the permanent marking of the screen, a risk on OLED panels even if the manufacturer indicates that it has implemented several measures to avoid it.

For the rest, it is a monitor well equipped with ports, including a USB-C which can be used to connect it to a computer and power the latter, up to 100 W. The response time is displayed at 0.03 ms only and specific treatments are provided to improve the quality of the image without reducing it, especially in video games. These are the players who are clearly targeted, but this screen might accompany a Mac when it is marketed.

Dough promises the launch of pre-orders from October, but it should be noted that the manufacturer has a reputation for struggling to keep its promises on deadlines. Can you register on the official website to receive an email when pre-orders open, knowing that Amazon France is one of the merchants who should sell the monitor in the future.
