The number of new COVID-19 cases reached 20,000 for the second day.

The Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters announced that as of 00:00 on the 10th, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 20,410, bringing the total to 18,51,845.

The number of new confirmed cases today is 124 more than the previous day (2286), which increased to 20,000 in 45 days.

The number of new confirmed cases, which has been steadily declining since peaking in mid-March due to the outbreak of omicron mutation, peaked on the 27th of last month and started to rebound. In particular, recently, there has been a phenomenon of ‘doubling’, in which the number of confirmed cases doubles every week.

The number soared to 2.0 times that of the last 3 days (1048 people) a week ago and 3.3 times that of the 26th of last month (6238 people) two weeks ago.

As the number of confirmed cases continues to rise, the government will declare that “COVID-19 has returned to the spread phase” and will announce quarantine and medical countermeasures in preparation for a re-infestation on the 13th.

Among the new confirmed cases, 250 were imported from overseas, the highest number in 165 days since January 26 (268). Among the new confirmed cases, 20,160 local infections occurred in Korea, excluding cases imported from abroad.

The number of patients with severe gastritis was 67, an increase of 6 from the previous day (61). As of 00:00 on the same day, there were 107,113 patients being treated at home, rising to the top of the 100,000 mark in 41 days since May 30 (108,896).

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 that died the day before was 19, the same as the day before. The number of deaths was 13 (68.4%) over 80 years old and 6 people (31.6%) in their 70s. The cumulative death toll was 24,643, and the cumulative fatality rate of COVID-19 was 0.13%.
