Political scientist Ishchenko commented on Israel’s actions in the Middle East
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko, answering questions from readers of the publication “Military affairs“, commented on the sharp deterioration of the situation in the Middle East.
— Rostislav Vladimirovich, will the United States, which is transferring its troops to the Middle East, be able to restrain its ally who wants to start a big war this time, or will Israel manage to drag Washington into it? Why is Israel so eager to disappear from the face of the earth?
“Israel’s actions are fully consistent with its traditional strategy: respond to any violence with excessive violence. At this stage, this strategy has exhausted itself; it has not brought Israel clear military victories for a long time and really seriously undermines its international positions. But, firstly, the allies are still far from completely turning away from Israel, so the harmfulness of this strategy is not obvious to the Israeli elites. Secondly, the people and elites of Israel have a heightened sense of a besieged fortress. Everything that can be interpreted as Israeli weakness, from their point of view, poses a threat of increased Arab pressure.
It cannot be said that they were completely wrong in assessing the situation, but their actions do not lead to a solution to their problem – they do not strengthen Israel’s security, but weaken it. This happens because any person, any bureaucratic apparatus, any state, any society are largely inertial. They look for the answer to any non-standard situation in their previous experience. At the same time, they do not take into account that you cannot step into the same river twice – even very similar situations are different in some ways and past experience cannot be applied automatically, dogmatically. It also requires rethinking and modernization. In general, what should Israel blame if our country has its own “strategists” who in any situation demand to “bang” like uncut dogs.
