The development studio of Tim Schafer, author of Brütal Legend, Psychonauts 1 & 2 and Iron Brigade, should soon unveil its next game, if the latest rumors are to be believed.
Released 3 years ago, the excellent Psychonauts 2 is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best first-party games from Xbox studios. If Double Fine’s last game was released on rival consoles, the studio’s next production should be an Xbox & PC exclusive.
And for several days, a name has been circulating on the web. “KILN”. This would be the title of the next Double Fine game. Leaker Timdog assures us: the title should have been revealed during the last Xbox show, in June 2023. However, the schedule was too busy and Microsoft would have preferred to postpone its presentation. Klobrille, another tweeter specializing in Xbox studios, assures us: the game would even be released this year.
We know it, Double Fine working on several new games. The studio intentionally decided not to work on a new triple-A game and instead developed several smaller projects. No Psychonauts 3 on the horizon therefore.
According to rumor, KILN might even be entitled to a release this January. Several bloggers are talking regarding a potential “shadow drop” during the next Microsoft keynote on January 25.
It should be noted in passing that several clues already confirm the existence of KILN, notably the trademark registration by Microsoft last year.
