The territory that the municipality of Dosquebradas occupies today, was inhabited at the time of discovery and conquest, by the tribe or nation of the Quimbaya aborigines. This territory was discovered by Captain Jorge Robledo, when he entered said province on his return from Arma in the year 1540.

After the occupation and subsequent independence of Colombia by Spain, Dosquebradas was founded in the year 1844 by settlers from Antioquia, Tolima, Cauca and Vallunos, an aspect that allowed it very early to establish itself as a meeting point for the two great colonization processes that occurred in this area of the country, the colonization of Antioquia and Cauca, a fact that has given the city a cosmopolitan character.

Dosquebradas, since its foundation was attached to the municipality of Santa Rosa de Cabal; initially as a section of the municipality and later as a corregimiento, it was until December 6, 1972, the year in which it became independent and rose to the status of Municipality; therefore, it begins to be part of the fourteenth Municipality of the Department of Risaralda, following a difficult process in the courts to acquire its autonomy.
