After the 1-1 first leg in Eindhoven, both teams started the second leg at Signal Iduna Park on an equal footing. Dortmund got the first chance of the match with a shot from Ian Maatsen which was narrowly deflected by Walter Benitez (2nd).
Borussia’s pressing was rewarded a few minutes later with the opening score by Jadon Sancho, who deceived the PSV goalkeeper with a shot from outside the area which ended up in the back of the net thanks to the post (4th, 1-0). Borussia, with Julien Duranville on the bench, continued to dominate but failed to widen the gap. The Dutch did not really manage to worry their opponents of the day and Johan Bakayoko might not make the difference.
In the second half, Hirving Lozano came on for PSV and almost equalized (53rd). His shot crashed into the post.
In the last quarter of an hour, Dortmund thought they took a decisive lead with a goal from Niclas Fullkrug but the referee, assisted by the VAR, canceled the 2-0 (77th). Marco Reus definitively sealed the fate of the match with a last minute goal (90th + 5, 2-0).
