This storm goes down in history. Forecast.

Never seen

Dora has a story of her own. This system originated as a tropical wave off the African coast on July 19. Despite the fact that it is still poorly organized, it produces thunderstorms and severe weather in the Atlantic basin. It crosses thousands of kilometers before crossing to the Pacific side. This is where Dora will gain in intensity.

collateral damage

The passage of Dora more than 800 kilometers from the coast of Hawaii will have had disastrous consequences. Having become a category 4 hurricane, it was obviously too far to make landfall at the level of the archipelago. However, the presence of a high pressure system had the effect of draining strong winds. We know the result: winds of 50 to 100 km/h fueled the wildfires that devastated the island of Maui.

A memory

Dora became the longest lasting Category 4 hurricane in the Pacific Basin. In all, he has already traveled 16,000 kilometers, from the African coast to the Eastern Pacific. It was downgraded to Category 3 with sustained winds of 185 km/h and gusts over 200 km/h. According to forecasters, Dora should lose intensity over the next few days. It will become a depression by next Wednesday. In the meantime, crossing the 180th meridian this Friday in the western Pacific basin, the storm becomes a typhoon. Also, Dora crosses the International Date Line and skips a full day.
