Asian Games are 77 days away

:During the preparations for the Asian Games, the Indian judo team was hit by the doping controversy. Four members of the men’s judo team selected for the Games have reportedly been caught in doping tests conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Two of them participated in the Grand Prix tournament held in Tajikistan at the beginning of last month. They were caught during the inspection conducted by NADA at the training camp organized by Sai Bhopal for this tournament. The test result came following the tournament.

The team was selected following the selection trials held in New Delhi last April. A total of 14 players were selected, two each in each weight category. Seven men and seven women.

It is up to the Indian Olympic Association to take a decision on the players caught in the drug test. Apart from the individual event, India will also compete in the mixed team event at the Asian Games. India’s performance in Judo is not that good in the Asian Games. Only five bronze medals have been won so far. Poonam Chopra last won the medal for India in 1994. Poonam’s bronze medal was in women’s light weight.
