Doom, how to activate Ray Tracing and DLSS?

The famous game Doom benefits from an imposing MOD allowing it to transform its rendering. Published by an enthusiast, it brings support for Ray Tracing to ID Software’s cult title.

Almost 30 years following its launch, Doom, the most famous FPS is enjoying a major update. It takes the form of a MOD providing advanced light management. PrBoom: Ray Traced deploys support for Ray Tracing effects which transforms its rendering.

It’s not the first “old” game from ID Software to benefit from such treatment since Quake RTX has been available for a while now. However, there is a size difference. This project is signed by an enthusiast and not ID Software or nVida.

The author specifies that Ray Tracing is only possible with a GeForce RTX for the moment. Clearly it is not available with a PC equipped with a Radeon RX RDNA 2 solution. The second essential point concerns performance. We must expect a significant drop in the FPS (number of images per second). If a GeForce RTX 3090 manages to deliver 240 fps without difficulty, an “entry-level” model may require the use of DLSS technology. The good news is that it’s supported via an optional file.
